Make sure you are one of the 50,000 to be invited by registering for FREE now. Once membership reaches the 50,000 mark, a $25 membership fees will be requested by email prior to choosing label name and first signing. The fee and will include an MP3 copy of the label's first 5 releases ($49.95 value based on iTunes costs).

The 5 most popular artists/bands from any genre, as submitted, suggested and voted on for by members that most closely meets the following criteria, will be signed:

* The artist/band is currently unsigned.
* The artist/band has at least one music video.
* The artist/band completed at least 10 songs.
* The artist/band has experience with shows/live performance.
* The artist/band is a facebook member.
* The artist/band has an online presence i.e. Myspace, Bebo, Youtube, etc.
* The artist/band has a marketable image.
* The artist/band possesses a decent sized fan-base to build upon.

More acts will be signed in the future.

Voting & Operating the Label

When you make a membership donation of $25, you will automatically become virtual a staff of the Label and a member of the the Label's online community. This community will runthe Label in effect making you a controlling partner of your record label.

The Membership Fee

The membership donation is $25 annually. $20 will go towards signing acts, marketing, promoting and distributing their music. $5 will go towards the administration of the Label's online community and the building/management of the My Record Label application on Facebook and website.

The cost of membership is less than the cost of purchasing a video game or even 3 CD's (assuming you purchase up to 3 CD's a year as the average music lover does)

$25 x 50,000 = $1,250,000 - Where Is All Of It Going?

$1 million is going directly to signing bands. In the first year we will sign 5 bands to contracts of approximately $200,000 each. That includes advances, recording, marketing, and touring. This is not regular "indie" label money we're talking. These bands will be taken care of like they should be.

Every band we sign will have a nice chunk of cash handed directly to them in the form of an advance. The rest will go towards recording (and replicating the actual CDs), marketing, and touring.

Touring is what kills most independent acts. It's really expensive to tour (gas prices, food, hotels, etc) and with this money to back these bands they'll be in a much better place to focus on what's important: the music.

The reason many independent labels don't make it is because they don't have funding and they can't keep their doors open. Which means they can't keep releasing good music.

In addition to a staggering $1 million to sign bands, the label will have $250k for office space, staff, computers, Internet, phone lines, maintenance of the 50,000 member area/application, and all the other incidentals that go into running a business.

Here's the breakdown of estimated costs associated with running the record label...

Credit Card fees:
2.9% x $25 + 30 cents per transaction
2.9% of $1,250,000 (500,000 x $25) = $36,250
$0.30 per transaction x 100,000 = $15,000
$51,250 total credit card fees

2 Web servers (to run a 50,000 member site): $400/month x 12 = $4,800

Creating a stable custom member's site: ~$10,000 one time

Maintenance on the member's site: $500/month x 12 = $6,000

Creating the Label's actual Web site: ~$3,000 (there are a lot of variables with this, and it might cost much less or more depending on how involved you decide the site to be)

~$2,000/month office space x 12 = $24,000 (a lot of variables here too)

Internet/phone = $100/month x 12 = $1,200 (assuming just 1 phone line)

Office furniture (i.e. computers/computer desks/chairs/printer): $5,000 (appx $1,000 per person for a basic set up)

Legal & Accounting (Record contracts for the bands, etc): ~$10,000

And, of course, tons of incidentals. We might need 2 servers. Or the maintenance might be $2,000/month. It's impossible to know without actually being at that point.

Even without incidentals we're up to $115,250 without taking into consideration one of the biggest expenses: staff. I know the almost $135,000 left sounds like a lot, but that really only covers a few employees.

To run a business well it's important to have reserve funds in case something comes up. A label can't run without the cash to keep it going and as you can see from this breakdown $250,000 doesn't go as far as you would think, but it goes far enough that we'll have a cushion.

Once the label has signed the 5 bands, we will then look to partner up with a Major label for Pressing, Promotion and Distribution. Members will be presented with a list of eligible Major labels and they will get to vote on which one to partner up with. Also the Major label partner will not have any creative control over the Label. They will merely be licensed to distribute our bands on a major level and that's all.
My Record Label Revenue Share

All sale through member pages will be split 70/30 with 30% going to the member. Also 10% of all sale outside member sites will be allocated for member benefits such as:

* Concerts
* VIP Parties
* Gifts & Goody Bags
* Merchandise
* Special Events, etc.

Additionally, 10% of total sale will be donated to charity organizations voted on by members.

My Record Label Member Benefits

1. Every member is licensed to distribute all music from the Label on their Facebook pages once they add the My Record Label application, and they can earn revenue from the sale of every song/album purchased by visitors to their page. This is achieved when the Label's music download widget (My Record Label) is added by the member to their Facebook page. Friends and visitors to that page can now see all the songs the member has chosen to sell and can purchase any. The revenue split will be 70/30 with 30% going to the member.
Thus members are encouraged to add the My Record Label widget to their Facebook pages, feature it at the top of their pages and promote it to their friends for maximum exposure and sales.

2. Members get to vote on everything like what acts get signed, what order the acts are released, what songs make it to the final album, album artwork, artist/band image, photo shoots, music videos, etc. The music experience for the first time is going to be truly interactive thanks to our social business model.

3. A core staff that will run the Label will be selected only from members who have qualified experience in the music industry.
